The Sarny Castle Vineyard

A vineyard has existed at Sarny Castle since at least the 18th century. It covered the terraced hillside between the Swiss House and the lower castle grounds — a space recalled for long decades by nothing more than a single wild vine and the barely legible contours of the land: stone terraces on the lower castle slopes and further west, partially cut through by an asphalt road built in the early 20th century. The idea of restoring the vineyard matured for more than ten years. In 2025, we acted.

The Vines
The first vines — Solaris and Seyval Blanc — were planted in spring 2025. The vineyard now counts 3,000 vines growing in even rows on the terraced slope. Between the rows we move with a narrow tractor; the stone walls give the hillside a shape that will endure for centuries to come.
Guests in our Swiss House wake to a view directly onto the vineyard.
Restoring the Historic Terraces
Establishing the vineyard was an act of conservation. We have restored the historic terracing of the slope — the terraces are retained by stone walls built from red sandstone, the local material from which Sarny Castle itself is built. The road in front of the Swiss House, repaved, has recovered its historic layout along with drainage into a ditch connected to the Ścinawka river.
In place of a degraded reinforced concrete tank, a pergola is being built — constructed from salvaged columns and capitals from the ruins of a 19th-century barn.
Tuscany and Sarny Castle
Tuscany and Sarny Castle
The castle vineyard complements our second wine estate — Casa Bucarelli in Tuscany. From 2026, our wines will be available to purchase and taste in the Wine House.
